Aloha from the Kauai Bible College staff! This page is designed to give you, as a parent, helpful information about the school and what your son/daughter will be experiencing.
Arrival to the Bible College:
After receiving your son or daughter’s flight itinerary via email, a KBC staff member will be picking up them up from the Lihue airport. If there are any needs or concerns during this process, feel free to contact either the Dean of Men or the Dean of Women (phone numbers below). If they haven’t already done so, please make sure your son or daughter has emailed us their flight itinerary (firstname.lastname@example.org ).
Duration of Your Child’s Stay at KBC:
While your son or daughter is at KBC, they will probably be faced with many new challenges. Some of these may come in the area of personal relationships; other students may be challenged by the living quarters. Some find it hard to simply adjust to a new way of life. We find that many of our students have their most challenging times in the first month of being here. Please keep these things in mind as you are communicating with your child throughout their stay here. If you have concerns, please prayerfully consider calling us and asking us about the current situation(s). Also, please keep in mind that the staff are doing our best to lead and help your son/daughter.
Another aspect of KBC is its ability to change young adults quickly in a short amount of time. This includes changes in thinking, attitudes, and perspectives. We try to create a platform where young people can dialogue spiritual, philosophical, and moral topics in and out of class. We place them in settings where they are often around more mature believers, such as staff members, teachers, and other adults in the church. Along side of this, as they progress throughout the semester the Word of God often takes root in hearts, changing them from the inside with the help of God’s Spirit. We pray for and expect each student to be changed while they are here and ask that you would join with us in interceding on your child’s behalf as well.
If you or your child have decided to utilize one of KBC’s payment plans (click on blue link for more info) while your child is attending the school, please read on. As of fall 2011, KBC has instated two new financial stipulations:
- Late Payment Fee: on the occasion that a payment is missed or turned in late, a fee of $25 will be added to every late tuition payment. Tuition payments on our plan are due the last day of every month.
- Post-Semester Incomplete Payment Penalty: on the occasion that the full cost of tuition for that semester has not been fully paid by the last day of that semester, an interest rate of 7% per month will accrue on the remaining outstanding balance.
Your son or daughter will be reading and signing a financial agreement stating the above when they arrive to our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our registrar, Emily Cucjen, (email@example.com).
Kauai is a great place to explore and adventure; there is lots of hiking, swimming, snorkeling, and much more. With these activities often come heightened risks. Please be aware that Kauai Bible College and its staff are not and will not be held responsible for any dangerous choices and/or actions of your child if they have become injured while taking risks, and each student over the age of 18 must sign a written document stating this. To ensure that your child will be able to be cared for properly in case of an emergency, we require that your son or daughter have medical insurance/coverage and can produce a copy of a legitimate insurance card for us when they arrive. If your child gets hurt or becomes very sick, our staff is on hand to make sure they get to the hospital/doctor. A staff member will often help make a final judgment call on what to do next, if the student has not already been proactive in this decision. If your child has been hurt or is sick and you cannot reach them, feel free to call one of the staff members below to potentially learn more, if applicable. Finally, if your son or daughter is under the age of 18, you must sign a release stating that we, the KBC staff, have the ability to help administer care to your child (please email us about this if your child is under 18).
Living on a tropical island has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is rare natural disasters such as a hurricanes or tsunamis. If one of these is heading our way, the island of Kauai is prepared with up-to-date warning systems that can be heard throughout the island in case of an incoming problem. Besides this, our first priority as a staff is to make sure your child is safe and out of harms way. Our current emergency protocol includes safely lodging your child in a families home from our church, etc. If you see that the Hawaiian islands are being threatened with a natural disaster, please do not call the staff first. Instead, first call your son/ daughter and stay updated via posts on our blog and/ or Facebook page (click on colored links to view). Know that our first priority is your child’s safety.
A Note on Spiritual Growth From the Staff
Kauai Bible exists not just to academically challenge young adults, but to edify Christ’s church. Even though there are many particulars involved with the Bible college, our main goal is to see your son or daughter know Jesus Christ in a very personal way that will change their lives from the inside out. The hopeful evidence of these changes will be fruit as seen in Galatians 5 (love, peace, joy, and so on). The staff at KBC are expected to be walking with Jesus daily by relating with Him through His Word, fellowship, and prayer. Each staff member has gifts and, of course, weaknesses as well. Overall, the staff have been chosen because they love God, are growing in Him, are obedient, and love others. We are here to genuinely love and care for your son or daughter, which may even include a loving rebuke from time to time. We are not perfect by any means, but are growing in Christ-likeness and are thankful for the opportunity to come alongside your child. Please know that we are daily praying for your child, and we ask that you would pray for us. Thank you!
